So took off Thursday to head to Port Aransas for some fishing. A buddy of mine booked the trip a while back and I have been looking forward to it ever since. Left Houston in the Danger Ranger about 4ish and arrived about 4 flipping hours later (45mph with a backwind). The guy who booked the trip left hour and a half after me from around same area and just about beat me there (showoff). We got rooms at the Holiday Inn Express which had great clean rooms, nice breakfast and the price was very reasonable. We grabber a bite to eat that evening before and realized we had no food or beer for the next day. Off to the convienience store we go.Poor basterds standing behind us had to wait for us to cash out for 200 dollars  worth of the food that would make a 10 year od boy exstatic and a cardiologist flip out.We loaded a 120qt icechest and headed out with a reciept that looked like we had made a full grocery run to Sams club.
The next morning we got up at 5:30 grab a quick bite at the hotel and took off out the door. We arrived at the dock not knowing what to expect but thankfully there sat a 42ft rig ready to go.the boat was awesome and it made the ride fairly smooth.
We ran about hour and 45 mins out and decided to take a shot .The water was not horrible and other than a few close calls and cold sweats no one got sick.First flipping line out I was fortunate enough to grab ahold of and begin what seemed like the most pain staking 15 minutes of my life (exept kidney stone one time) my forearms and back made me realize I really was not twenty anymore but damn I was too excited to see what the eff this was.
At about 15 ft down we could finally see the fish swimming and at that point we determined it was a shark. The jackass came close to the top as if to say "hey fat boy watch this" and then haul ass back down ripping my line off the reel to start from scratch. Finally after being scolded by the deck hand a few time I layed into the fish to let him know who was boss (yeah right). When the shark came close enough the captain and deckhand decided shooting it would not be a valid option (apparently did not ask me for my opinion) and they just waited for the opportunity to get it close enough to gaff it and drag it in.
finally close enough they gaffed the mother and yelled for me to back off since these sharks (Mako)are super aggressive and have been known to jump into boats and grab for anything around to bite.(he did end up biting a hole in the water spray nozzle)
Once thrown in the boat we determined the Mako was around 5ft and weighed around 70lbs. Beautiful fish -mission accomplished.
We spent the rest of the day chasing King and ended up pulling in our six man limit of 12 fish not to bad. We split up the shark and king so everyone could try the shark .All in all I had a blast and am ready to go again when the opportunity arises , I am getting the pics together and will post them soon.
